I am so cracking myself up right now on how emotional I can be over the silliest things. I've officially closed my 2+ year running Apolo site, OhnoVelocity. I realize that I hadn't updated OV in a while, even despite a good 10 new member applications coming in each day. I'm so attached to this crazy site, that I'm finding it hard to even delete the graphics and files from my computer!
Things have become so busy, other projects have taken priority. I figured it was the natural decision to make, yet nothing made it more real than the act of taking the site down. I put more hard work into that website than any other project, and seeing others enjoy the archives, cartoons, and media was the highlight of my year in 2002. I remember that year looking up some 60+ Apolo sites that had been created, and my website fell in line with the masses. A couple year later, and it became one of the few "old school" Apolo sites - still hanging in there, still spreadin' the love.
My involvement in short track and with Apolo has changed so much since '02, and I look back in complete amazement. OhnoVelocity did so much more than just give me a web page to post up Apolo multimedia. It got me my first press credential at the Feb '03 SLC world cup, and allowed Apolo to see my artwork for the first time.
It's unbelievable how things happen. If you would have asked me 2 years ago if I thought I would even get the chance to meet Apolo, my exact words would have been "I can only wish". OV was my fascination personified, but this little site helped make opportunities open, dreams come true. I will be keeping the archives, just for nostalgic purposes, and who knows - AAO cartoons may be showing up again somewhere on the net. Who would have imagined some HTML and a few sketches would in the end, like Apolo, have a special place in my heart...
So, OhnoVelocity, here's to you, kid. It's been a good, great, indescribable 2 years.
