Want to give a post to my mother, Julie, even though I know she doesn't read my blog too often. Having a mother that has been one of my best friends has to be the biggest blessing in my life. The older I get, the more I need her encouraging words and her "love ya no matter what" attitude.
I had to put up this silly shot of us, about 4 years ago. We may not look like we're related here, lol, I am SO WHITE in this picture! I remember asking my mother if I was adopted when I was around 6 yrs old. All the other kids in school looked like their mother's, but I was quite the opposite. "If I didn't watch you come out of me, I would have wondered the same thing!" she told me. I guess the only Puertorican trait that I came away with was a smart mouth.
Our relationship is much different from the mother/daughter relationships that I've seen, in that we count on each other for support, advice, and there's a mutual respect. I'm lucky to have such an amazing woman to call "mom".
In my life, so many things are uncertain. Mom's love is always certain, especially when I'm, at times, not lovable. I've been through some of the hardest times with my mother, both emotionally and physically, and we've both needed each other to lean on for strength.
I'm just glad that she continues to show me that she's human, and I love her even more because of it.
So, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. It's not an easy job, but it's the most important one you'll ever have.
