I'm running off very little sleep at the moment, but that's never slowed me down - too much.

AllisonBaver.com is now up. I was keeping my eyes open with toothpicks in order to have it up before I leave.

I'm packing right now, and praying I remember everything. Our flight to Chicago doesn't leave until Tuesday, but tonight is the long trek to Los Angeles.

I couldn't be more excited or thrilled right now. Haven't seen short track live since February. Lately, I've been getting busier and busier at these meets, but this one I'm going to take it easy and just enjoy. I may be a webmistress, but I'm a fan, too - can't miss the good stuff!

We'll see how this Cup pans out. Bridie and Allison, do your thang, girls...and Apolo - yeah - you know what to do, lol.

I'll report back once in Madison, probably over at USSTfans.com. Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and for the love - don't eat too much!

- Are you a PYT? Or a RIPG? - Friday, November 19, 2004

Ok, stole this from Molls - couldn't resist.

Am I really like this?

20 Questions to a Better Relationship: Results

eXpressive: 4/10
Practical: 7/10
Physical: 3/10
Giver: 6/10

You are a RPIG--Reserved Practical Intellectual Giver. This makes you a Rock of Gibraltar.

"You are loyal, kind, thoughtful and conscientious. You're a good person. You make everyone around you happier and better, even if you yourself are not at your happiest or best. You just care so much about your friends and loved ones that you can't help giving them everything of yourself. It can wear you out, but you'd never let on.

You're successful, smart and fun to be with, but your self-esteem could use some boosting. You don't like conflict, and you don't like demanding things for yourself, so you can feel unappreciated. But then you wonder if you don't deserve to be appreciated. You do!

You have many small crushes, but it takes you ages to get to a serious stage with someone. You get so caught up second-guessing yourself and worrying if the other person really *likes* likes you that you never dare to make the first move. Generally you end up with another clever RPIG who knows one when s/he sees one. This adds up to one long courtship. Fortunately this also adds up to one long marriage.

You would never cheat. You would never hurt anyone's feelings. You are so sympathetic and give so many second chances that it takes a lo-o-ong time for anyone to get on your bad side.

Your only problem is you can be *too* thoughtful -- you can end up worrying and getting hung up over nothing.

You may be a boy scout. "

Is it for real? Can it be true? Elf is now on DVD?? Dude, I've been doin' the happy dance since hearing this movie was now available to own. There's only 2 comedians that I simply adore: Jimmy Fallon and Mr. Elf himself, Will Ferrell.

Alright, I have too much to do, must get a move on. I leave for Madison starting Monday, so I have this weekend to finish homework, pack, and for God sakes try and not forget my CAMERA!

- Road Trip - Monday, November 15, 2004

Yeeeah baby.

I love traveling, and I've done quite a lot of it in the past 3 years. As much as I adore visiting other states, other countries, nothing beats the one - the only - Road Trip. We took lots of pics, so you can follow along in photos on the gallery to the right---> :)

Of course no road trip, that I know of, would be complete without some good friends to make the journey go by faster. And yes, the Cali Trio was at it again...

Here's where we went -

Day 1:
Yosemite National Park

I drove to Visalia on Wednesday night and met up with Lupe and Molly. We got up early (about 9am, which is damn early), piled in the car - along with Lupe's sister, Julissa - and made the trip up the mountain of Central California to the famous Yosemite National Park. We were hoping, praying, doing anti-rain dances in attempt to have the weather be decent. And to our surprise? Ok, no surprise, it rained like a bitch. It certainly made for an interesting trek through the mountains that seemed to go on for miles. Just when we thought we might bust the gates of heaven, we were so damn HIGH up, we arrived at the vistor center. We checked out the gift shops and noticed a huge bear in the middle of the store. We couldn't resist - photo op! But, the locals started giving us shifty eyes, so we skipped on our merry way. Yosemite is a beautiful place. We all agreed that looking down the canyons made one seem so small in comparison to this world. Nature like this really IS bigger than life.

As we made our way down the hill back to Madera, Molly's cousin, Dani, had called to say that she had arrived from Los Angeles to our hotel and wanted to go to Chukchansi Casino. So, we get our best Ocean's 11 'tudes on, and Julissa, Lupe, Molly, Dani, and myself are in the casino - of course, everyone making money but me. Dani had made friends with a nickle machine, and a mere 2 hours later, cha-chinged herself to a $60 payback. Realizing that we hadn't eaten since that morning, we found the casino buffet and walked, ney, RAN to it. This buffet was out of control, and we were all so giddy that we hardly knew were to start. I felt like a had my weight in food, and asked who would like to join me in jogging to the dessert bar. Needless to say, we had to roll to our car at the end of the night.

Day 2:
Sushi at Yoshino's

*deep sigh* Let me just say that I personally look forward to each and every time we get the chance to eat at Yoshino's. We convinced Dani that this sushi was a 'must' before we left Fresno, CA. Not only is the atmosphere funky and fun, but the sushi is so fresh it damn near talks back to you. You sit on a circular island surrounding the chefs and holler up your orders. Each chef has his own 'special'. The 'Jack special', the 'Robert Dinero'....and our all time favorite - The Wat Special. Mr. Wat was in the back, and Lupes asked Robert if we could meet him and tell him how much we bow to him for making this kick-ass sushi extravaganza. Mr. Wat sheeplishly walked out and all us girls clapped and sang our sushi praises. Mr. Wat gave a nervous smile, and made what looked like an 'ass hauling' to the back kitchen. This, of course, made us laugh even more. The 4 of us polished off 4 of these specials, plus 2 other rolls called "Death Valley" (which is deep-fried california rolls) and the "Governor Roll", named after our Governator.

The perfect end to this stuff fest? Tempura Banana for dessert. The bananas are deep-fried in Tempura batter, placed on a plate of banana custard sauce, with strawberries, chocolate sauce, and powdered sugar. Holy Cripes, this stuff is amazingly good. Lupes enjoyed a nice merlot, Molly some root beer, and Dani and I had Shirley Temples. We were so full, we had to push each other out the door. We did a lot of wheeling and pushing on this trip...damn.

Day 2: That Night
Club "On The Rocks"

Still full, and possibly ready to pass out on the sidewalk, we remembered that one of the sushi chefs recommended a club to go check out called On The Rocks. We rolled into the car and headed back to the hotel to get ready. On The Rocks was a trendy little club/lounge with 3 different rooms, a big flat screen showing music videos, and plenty of note-worthy club-goers attempting to do that thing called Dancing. I'm serious, I've never seen people move their bodies like that really thinking it looks 'hip' to appear to be having a ceisure. Luckily the club wasn't all teeny boppers, it had it's share of 30-somethings, and a few 40-somethings who's job was to stare at us and utterly creep us out. We found some seats in the back, ordered some Cosmo's and Hulk's (Hypnotic and Hennesy) and waited for the DJ to get a clue and play the real jams. We hit the floor finally, and showed Dani some Techno moves. Molly got frisky with a platform speaker, and 2 other girls roamed over to us saying that we seemed fun and wanted to hang out on our side of the floor.

A few - ok, maybe a LOT - of drinks later, it was back at the hotel at 2am to hit the bed like a rock and get some sleep for tomorrow's drive to San Jose. Lupes and Dani decide, at 2am, that they're going to head up to Chukchansi Casino for one more round of gambling. Molly and I stayed at the hotel, badly in need of a pillow. We (ok, maybe just Molly) was dead asleep, when suddenly I hear a pounding on the door. I look at the clock (almost 6am!), and jump out of bed to go to the window. Lupes and Dani were back from the casino, and trying to put the key in the door to unlock it. "Wait, let me try" I yell through the door. After a few minutes of fighting with the damn lock, we realize that it's jammed. I could hear Lupe mumbling "we're gonna have to sleep in the car!" I couldn't believe the door lock jammed! I thought, screw it, I gotta get these guys in here somehow. I turn to Molly to ask what she thinks I should do. Her response?

"ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz"

Ooook, I guess I'll just have to pop the screen on the large window next to the door. Lucky for us, the window was low to the ground, and I opened it and popped the screen as a tired Lupe and Dani did a MacGyver and climbed in through the window. About 4 hours of sleep later, we pack up and get ready to leave - and again, have to hike our asses (plus our bags) out the hotel window. Can we just get our Starbucks and be on the road already?

Day 3:
Miss Samoa pagent
San Jose, CA

Three hours to San Jose, and we arrive in one piece to the Hyatt Regency. Molly's parents were involved in the Miss Samoa pagent, her mom being a sponsor through her business, Polynesian Creations, and her dad playing host and the night's entertainment. Molly's dad, Dennis Ah Yek, is a very well known singer/musician in Hawaii, and Lupe and I were so excited that we'd get to see him perform for the first time! He has a beautiful voice, and did such a lovely job. The pagent started out with a buffet dinner at 5:30, then there were 3 contestants competing for the Miss Samoa title. Polynesian dancing, Hawaiian music, and I was even learning a bit of Samoan - Talofa Lava!

The next morning was call to take it easy, and found a mall in San Jose called the Great Mall, where we spent most of our Sunday.

It was such a wild, fun, comforting, silly, funny, and overall great trip. We always manage to do way too much eating and shopping, but during the drives and late night's in the hotel rooms, we got in a whole lot of great conversation. It's so wonderful to know that you have friends that are willing to do just about anything for your crazy ass. And what I love most is it doesn't matter where you are - good friend can find the fun and adventure in the most odd places. I cherish these road trips, these friends, these times in my life.

After this trip, Madison has some stiff competition. Although, I think it's ready for the challenge...

- November, you Ka-RAY-z! -

I'm home from my Veteran's Day weekend.

- Sweet Lawd, it has arrived - Wednesday, November 10, 2004

Almost through the work day, and in a few hours will be the beginning of my 4 day weekend.

I'm so happy, I could ball.

Some fun, crazy stuff in store for this glorious occasion, and I will be bringing the digicam for proper documentation. The players involved shall remain undisclosed, since it's more fun that way. Although I will tell you that secret activities include, but not limited to:

- A Casino in Madera
- A place called Yosemite National Park
- Fresno Sushi Night @ Yoshino's
- Hula in San Jose
- A myriad of dinners and movies

Cali freaks Unite! Damn, we need that one on a shirt.

- May it be a good one, My dear friend - Tuesday, November 09, 2004

WISH I COULD BE THERE! Have TOO much fun today, and keep an eyeball on your mailbox - there's a little somethin' coming your way :)

- No Time - Monday, November 08, 2004

I feel like everything's been pushed into overdrive!

These next few weeks are going to be a blur, so getting organized this very nano-second is what's gotta happen.

Melinda - I was in Pleasanton and San Ramon, CA this weekend, but I broke my neck to get your package sent off in time (damn post office doesn't open til 10am on Saturday!) They said it will be there before Wednesday, Thank God, so keep a look out!

Btw, congrats to Bridie on settling in to her new apartment! I'll have to give you a call, make sure that telephone works, lol.

I have a feeling that I'm going to have to accomplish a week's worth of homework tonight, just so it doesn't get in the way of the 8 million things I have to do before Thanksgiving. It's nice to be able to do these things in advance, so I can make room for the holiday months. The joys of having my courses online this semester *peaceful sigh*

My little Mazda hasn't seen this much travel EVER. I bet I'll put about 1,000 more miles on it by next weekend. I love it, though. People always ask me how I can endure a 3 hour drive, but I don't mind it at all. Plus, with a job that demands my attention, my communication skills, and WAY too much emotion, a dead-quiet drive across Central California is the best theropy. This week is going to fly by, only attributed to the fact that Thursday is a holiday and they gave us Friday off as well. Four day weekend, YES!

Ok, back to work...

- Have a great weekend! - Saturday, November 06, 2004

TGIF!

I have the sniffles, but here's to kickin' this thing before the weekend's over.

- *sings* "Happy People...." - Thursday, November 04, 2004

What the jigga is goin' down with Jay-Z and R.Kelly?

'member this phat concert tour, Molls?

They were scheduled to be in LA a week before Thanksgiving, and would be arriving in Sac Town at Arco Arena Thanksgiving Weekend, but I have a feeling this tour was too good to last. I love these guys, but *ugh* these hip-hop people and their on-stage drama!

R. Kelly sues Jay-Z over canceled tour

"The 'Best of Both Worlds' tour was canceled following a tumultuous performance Friday at Madison Square Garden during which Kelly abruptly left the stage after telling the audience he saw two men in the crowd brandishing guns. "

- Three cheers for the GayPatriot - Wednesday, November 03, 2004

Ugh, what a day. One of the longest work days I've had in a LONG ass time.

It's freezing, it's raining, it's not lookin' like California right now. So, I'll sip some hot cocoa and leave my daily postings with this intriguing find, via Andrew Sullivan's blog - (thanks for the mention, Yano...even though apparently Noelle's been 'pimping' him for sometime)

Gay Patriot
the musings of a gay conservative
(excerpt)

"The President wins Ohio & New Mexico and the White House again.

The President kills Kerry in Florida.

The President has made mid-term and re-election year gains in the United States Senate and the United States House.

The President wins popular vote with more than 50% -- something Bill Clinton never did.

The Reagan Generation has taken firm control of our country in a time of war.

The biggest losers:
- Osama bin Laden.
- Michael Moore.
- Mainstream Media.
- National Democratic Party.
- Terry McAuliffe.
- MoveOn.org and liberal 527 groups.
- McCain-Feingold campaign "reform".
- Radical gay leftists who were trounced in every state due to their maniacal obsession with gay marriage above all other issues.
- The gay rights movement at the hands of its own leaders.
- Patrick Guerriero and Log Cabin Republicans."

- In light of another Four Years: God Bless America -

I’m going to do a big no-no on my own blog, and share my feelings about last night’s election.

By no means am I less passionate about the politics of my country just because I don’t feel the need to mention such things in this setting.

And I realize that the majority (damn near all) of the friends that read this blog are of the Democratic persuasion, but this is what I have to say.

Yes, I am happy that President Bush was re-elected to office. This president has had to endure what no human should be allowed to: deciding ‘what to do next’ after 9/ll. I wouldn’t wish that decision on my worst enemy, but fresh into the white house he was faced with the ugliest of human nature and what pure evil can accomplish on a mass scale. Simply because I’m Republican does not mean that I accepted Bush from the get go, he may not be perfect in all his ways, but my bottom line is anyone that puts his trust in Jesus Christ and is not afraid to profess it is someone that I can stand behind.

I firmly believe that no one should push their moral standards on anyone (i.e. homosexuality, gay marriage, abortion), and all should be free to worship the god they choose. That’s what America was all about, right? Freedom. However, from the moment our forefathers set foot on this land, it is written in the history records (funny how they never seemed to make it to the school text books) that this land was a) dedicated to The Lord, and b) fashioned so that this country would have a firm foundation based on the Bible and the Gospel.

Honestly, I think I would be satisfied even if Sen. John Kerry won this election. I have no harsh words for Kerry. Only a slight fear of someone who referred to the threat of Terrorism as a ‘nuisance’. In the end, I don’t put my trust in man for my future. I would pray everyday for John Kerry to have the strength to face the hardest, most thankless, yet most important job of all – President of our Nation. I see that everything also happens for a purpose, nothing up to chance.

Pray for your leaders. They need your prayers, not your division. This is not the time for our country to be divided, which is a vulnerability that our now ever-present enemy will use to their advantage. I may have moments of dislike toward certain Presidential candidates, but I’ve never seen such hatred toward a President than in this election.

Pray for change. God may even bring it through a man you would have least expected it from.

- Vote to get a shot - Tuesday, November 02, 2004

I have a new feature that I would like to introduce to the blog. Because kids say the damndest things...

Wonderblog's Preschool Dialoge of the Week
Two girls, age 4

girl 1: "Do you know what 'Bonita' means?"
girl 2: "Um...no."
girl 1: "It means 'sexy'. You know, like a 'sexy mama'!"
girl 2: "It does? Ooooh!"
girl 1: "Do you know what 'sexy' means?"
girl 2: "Yeah, I know what 'sexy' means. It's when a girl shakes her booty at a cute boy!"

Ok, so how am I, the teacher, supposed to keep a straight face when I come upon these types of conversations? Is it wrong to laugh, since such an uncontrollable jesture may led to all my 4 year old girls giving their fellow 'nose-picking, booger-flinging' 4 year old counterparts a booty-shaking side show? I can't help it, though - I was dying with pain trying to hold back a huge giggle. After giving the 'booty shaker' her lecture on the many things she can discuss when she gets OLDER, I couldn't hide my giggles. Somethings are just too damn funny...

I ran to the polls today after work, since I don't even know what sock goes on which foot in the morning, let alone trying to decide which leader should be in our highest office. It was at a middle school just down the street and luckily I didn't have to wait. However, I'm really peeved about this different system of voting. I know that everyone is trying to do away with the 'punching' method, so I was expecting maybe some electronic voting machine. Yeah right. Instead we're stuck with using these BIG ASS, memo-to-congress sized voting sheets, which require you to fill in the bubble PSAT style. Do you know how long it took me to fill that mofo out? They're trying to attract people to the poles, I don't have all damn day to draw happy faces on my choosen candidates! Come to think of it, I don't think I'd be too found of using anything electronic, either. I have such a love/hate relationship with technology that I don't feel right trusting something important like my vote to a machine.

What the hell was wrong with punching the ballots? That baby was done and over with in a matter of 2 minutes. Even faster still if I had some espresso before hand. All this 'anti-hanging chad' crap is just that...crap. If you, the somewhat intelligent voter, can't make holes in a paper card, then you shouldn't even be let into the building. Sorry, but I have sub-zero tolerance for stupidity, and now I'm having to spend a whopping 4 1/2 minutes playing 'Fill in the dots' AND wait for my BIG ASS, resturant-menu sized ballot to be scanned before I'm ok to leave.

Well, at least Starbucks understands this travesty. I went to my local SB to get some homework done, and found that if you flash your "I Voted" sticker, you get a free shot. Score! Problem is I could have used that free shot for an energy boost BEFORE I entered the polls.

What!?! Those bubbles are huge, man!

It's almost Wednesday. For once, this week is passing like a Flordia hurricane.

- Halloweenies - Monday, November 01, 2004

Wow.

No posts.

Last week was nuts and kept me running across town at all hours of the day. It was great to see the week end.

I spent Halloween weekend with the two scariest ghouls this side of slightly normal.

You'll never guess the hellish freakishness that insued.

Saturday.

...started out with a scary-as-hell trip to Sonic Burger for lunch. That Cherry Limeade was so good it freaked me OUT. Oh, and don't get me started on the food - those burgers will straight have you runnin' for your mommy.

And if lunch wasn't frightening enough, we had to heighten the fear x 10 by driving to Lemoore, CA. to The Palace. This place is not for the faint of heart. Just before I became paralyzed with fright, Lupes utters the most horrifying sentence - "It's time for BINGO!"

Every goblin from here to Transylvania was playing this addicting game, and peering at you through the blinding smoke hovering above their bad hair pieces and oh-so-80's lip stick. Between getting threatened with the rack for distrubing our fellow comatose patrons and getting just a wee bit out of hand with the 'dabbers', this was shaping up to be a truly terrifying trip.

Sunday.

You'd think that we would have learned our lesson not to mess with evil, but you should know by now that we don't think. Hence, stop holding your breath and read on...

Up the creepiest hill we went, driving aimlessly as if we weren't to soon be in fear of our very lives....or wallets. There it was! In the midst of the haunting fog clouds we saw it...the Casino that everyone goes in, but never comes out. Lupes was kidnapped and tied to a green table that the murderous captors refered to as "volcano roulette". *shiver* I'll never be the same again.

Hands would leap out from the walls, grab the loose change in your pockets, and throw them into the mouths of these awful machines that made loud dinging sounds - loud enough to make your hair stand on end. Molly and I finally escaped with our lives, a large hazelnut coffee and chocolate eclair, while Lupes was apparently favored since they released her from the table with 2 times more money than she entered with.

Other tortureous things happened, some too mortifying to mention. All I remember is a dark room, Wild Vines bottles, NKOTB video tapes, and shreeking laughter.

*shivers again*

A bone chilling weekend that I wasn't prepared for - and I still have the shakes.
