- Someone to remember - Sunday, January 23, 2005

I saw this on the news tonight, and got incredibly sad. I grew up watching the Tonight Show in the 80's.

Late Night King Johnny Carson Dies at 79

Won't ever be another like him.

- Here's to you, Lupita - Tuesday, January 18, 2005

Today is the birthday of a very special friend, and I hope you all will run to her place in cyberspace and wish her the best.

Lupes, I've really been blessed to have you in my life, and really LUCKY to have you close enough to see on a semi-regular-whenever-I-drive-down-and-suddenly-kidnap-you basis. When I think of this crazy, proud-as-hell Mexican, the first word that comes to mind?

Kindhearted.

There's not a bad bone in your body, Lupes, and anyone that calls you friend knows how lucky they are. I love ya so much and hope that this year brings more surprises and adventures.

Happy Birthday, Lupes!

Witness: For the prosecution of Scott Peterson

I was wandering through the brand-spanking new Borders on Sunday that was newly built about 3 months ago. I've always had to drive 15 minutes to the closest Borders store, but this one is about 5 minutes away. Let me tell you, I've already been spending WAY too much time over there, which is what I feared, lol.

I love this store, it's a guilty pleasure and I could be in there for days searching out books on Marketing, Topography and Design, Stephen King novels, and of course fashion magazines galore.

I had just recently watch the episode of Oprah in which she interviewed Amber Frey, Scott Peterson's ex-girlfriend. As I've mentioned before, this story just sucked me in from the start, and I remember feeling horrible about the report of a woman gone missing on Christmas Eve 2002. Two years later, we've only really seen a 1-dimentional story about tragedy gone evil...but when I saw that Amber Frey had written a book, I knew I was going to want to read it.

It was nuts. When I finished my romp in Borders, I purchased the book and brought it home, only to immediately put slippers on, jump into bed, and start reading. I'm not a big speed reader, and I usually take my time with books. Uh, yeah - not with this one. I started reading at 10:00pm and could barely unglue my eyes from the pages until I finished the entire book at 2:00am. I just couldn't put it down. It's a whole other side and story of these unthinkable chain of events, and you really understand Amber as she talks in length on everything from when she first met Scott on a blind date, to her hard childhood and how all that's happened has made her strong. More incredible was that she has tremendous faith in God, and the book documents so many close-calls, frightening parallels, and the utmost importance of always listening to that little voice inside you.

I was riveted, as cheesy as that sounds. And even though I still believe that Scott is a new breed of monster, it really even shows him as a man so far lost in his own depression and what the addiction to lies can do to someone's mind.

Just plain and simple, it's a must-read if you were at all following this story.

- Starting the New Year right - Sunday, January 09, 2005

Man!

*dusts off blog*

Is this thing still on? Sorry guys for lack of postage. When a year ends and a new one begins, I always have a ton to do, but I have many ventures on my plate that are taking my time and effort.

Short Track relations and websites are going to keep me hopping this year, as well as my business. I'm still finding a way to convert one side of my room into a make-shift office for now. It's also in discussion on whether I'll be purchasing a screenprinting machine and putting the creative control in my court. Exciting offers and collaborations are on the horizion, and all I can think about is how did I get here? Hard work, yes, although intergity and trust being my main concern.

This is the year to switch gears in my career, and head into another job with my new major in mind: computers. I'm going to school right now for computer science and art new media, and I've actually found something that many of my other 'college' friends did not - a direction toward something that I really love to do. My life would not be complete without being able to create or be creative, and I know that I'm opening the doors for that this year. The resume goes out this week, and we'll see what happens.

and I shall end with:

Lil Ape's 'Must Haves' for January 2005

1. Amber Frey's book, "Witness"
Not only have I been glued to this horrific story since it came about, but it's almost hard to believe that some people can be this evil. Plus, another scary sidenote is that the cali girls and I romp in and around Fresno, CA, the area were Amber and Scott met, ate, and hung out. It's really creepy to know that.

2. Crest Whitestrips Premium
I had my doubts, I did. I've been coveting a whiter smile for a while now, and thought I would just break down and buy these strips that claim to wipe 14 years of stains from your teeth in 7 days. Well - let me just say that after only 5 days of use, I'm literally stopping traffic on the I-80 with these chompers. I can't even smile in the mirror, it hurts my eyes! This is the dahli-lama of teeth whitening.

3. Hula by Benefit
I've already become addicted to this stuff, but inheriting the more irish side of my irish/puertorican mix, makes baking in the sun off limits. To that I say, "Thank You Sephora!" I'm a huge fan of Benefit products. This bronzer is a GodSend, and will have everybody wondering how you can keep a beautiful tan in the middle of January. Now THAT is true California style, baby.
